Celebrate Independence Day

The Fourth of July is just around the corner and I have yet to meet anyone more excited than I am. On that day we bring our community together and celebrate what makes this Country so great. Anyone can make the 4th of July a special day and here are some activities that can help you create a great day. But the only way to make a day to remember is you. Here are some activities you can do with your elderly residence, family members, or even you.

Homemade crafts: nothing can show your patriotism then homemade crafts like banners, lanterns, wreaths, or anything you can think of that helps you stay creative. This is also a great activity to do with your grandchildren and a way to bring the family together for the fourth.

Have a bake sale: Everybody has a sweet tooth and if they say they don’t they’re lying. Baking has been known to reduce stress and can even make you a more rounded person and can develop a passion for you. This is another activity you could do with your family and having a Fourth of July themed dessert really captures people’s attention and can provide you with some income. Don’t forget to take a couple for yourself.

Throw a Backyard BBQ Party: If you can’t participate in activities away from home, bring the party to them! Throwing a backyard barbecue can allow them to connect with family and friends. Everybody loves a good BBQ and giving them a place to go, eat, and socialize will benefit everyone and make the day much more festive.

Sometimes it’s hard for families to come into town to celebrate the holiday, but that doesn’t mean you have to be antisocial. Check your local community senior center or church for any activities that they may have planned for the 4th of July.
